Barclay Town Meeting – October 18th, 2017

Oct 16, 2017 | Meetings Agendas Events, Town Meetings

The October Town Meeting was cancelled, but there is still some news to share…

Sewer Project: the Town of Sudlersville reported that it received the commitment letter from MDE for the loan needed to complete the funding of the Barclay project. Sudlersville reapplied for the USDA funding due to the denial of an extension of the funds through a simple request, and sent solicitation letters to six area banks for an interim construction loan bid. Once Sudlersville secures an interim construction loan, completed the loan settlement with MDE and USDA, they will be able to proceed with the bidding of the project.

The Marvin Memorial donation is complete. Stay tuned for updates on plans to renovate and update the building.

At the September Town Meeting, the Commissioners introduced an Ordinance would add a use to “R” Residential and “TC” Town Center zoning districts for Direct Market Farming, defined as “growing and harvesting produce and crops for sale directly to the general public through Farmers Markets and produce stands. Does not include raising, butchering, and selling of meat, fish, or poultry. Does not allow for commercial sale of any farm products.” The proposed Ordinance also adds supplemental regulations for “R” zoned properties that limits the number of employees, requires that the character of the property remain residential, allow no more than 50% of the acreage be used, and limits negative impacts including traffic. The ordinance will be presented for adoption during the November 15, 2017, Town Meeting.

The next Town Meeting will be Wednesday, November 15, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at Marvin Memorial Church, 101 Church Lane, Barclay, MD 21607.
