Barclay Town Meeting – April 18th 2018

Apr 17, 2018 | Meetings Agendas Events, Town Meetings

Town elections are coming up – Mark your calendar for Monday, June 11, 2018. More information on the candidates will be available next month after the nominations are all in.

Sewer Project Update –Sudlersville is awaiting comments from state agencies on permit approvals, working on an updated Intergovernmental Agreement, and moving forward with the rate study. It will still be a while before we see a shovel in the ground here in Barclay.

The Commissioners introduced a resolution to update the Charter of the Town of Barclay. The Charter is the “rulebook” for the Town, and has not had a major updating since 1984.

Here are a few highlights of changes:

  • Updating that voter registration to be 30 days after election through 30 days before election with Clerk at any Town meeting.
  • Updating so that if a voter is qualified to vote in a county, state or federal, then he does not have to also register with town. Anyone not registered at county, state or federal can register separately with town for town elections only.
  • Allowing the Town to borrow money, either through bond sales or a regular loan

A public hearing will be held at the May 15, 2018, Town Meeting.

The next Town Meeting will be Wednesday, May 18, 2018, 7:00 p.m. at Town Meeting Hall (Marvin Memorial Church), 101 Church Lane, Barclay, MD 21607.

Watch for information on public meeting and hearing dates, times, and locations, including changes and cancellations here. The information is also posted in the bulletin board in front of the Town Office.

All Commission meetings are conducted in Open Session unless otherwise indicated. All or part of the meeting may be closed to the public in accordance with Maryland Open Meetings Act procedures.

We want ideas for information to include on the website. If you have photos of Barclay from days gone by and would like them on the website, please contact Debbie Bowden at townofbarclay@gmail.com or 410-490-5881.
